LA Wildcats Lose To Jackson County Blue Devils

The Livingston Academy Wildcats hosted the Jackson County Blue Devils on Friday, Jan. 5.

"We played a lot better than we have in the past few games," Wildcats Coach Danny McCoin said. "We were only down by one at the half but we went dry on scoring in the third quarter and you just can't do that against a team as talented as Jackson County."

The Blue Devils jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter outscoring the 'Cats 13-9. LA fought back in the second quarter outscoring Jackson County 15-12 and were down by only one at the half, 25-24.

The Blue Devils controlled the third quarter outscoring the 'Cats 15-8. Jackson County pulled away in the fourth quarter. The Blue Devils outscored LA 21-14 and went home with the win by a score of 61-46.

Andy Allred led scoring for the 'Cats with 17 points, including a free throw. Also scoring for LA, Matt Quarles had 9 points, including a 3-pointer, Jesse Wolfram had 8 points, Jeff Aldridge had 5 points, including a 3-pointer, Andy Beechboard had 3 points, including a free throw, Joseph McGill had 2 points, and Dustin Ferrell also had 2 points on 2 free throws.

Assists were led by Matt Quarles with 5 assists. Jesse Wolfram had 3, Andy Beech-board and Robert Richardson each had 2, and Andy Allred, Jeff Aldridge, and Dustin Ferrell each had 1.

Jesse Wolfram controlled the boards for the 'Cats. He led in rebounds with 7, followed by Andy Beechboard with 6, Andy Allred and Jeff Aldridge each with 5, Matt Quarles and Robert Richardson each with 4, Joseph McGill with 3, and Dustin Ferrell with 2.

Steals were also led by Jesse Wolfram, with 5 , followed by Andy Beechboard with 2, and Andy Allred, Jeff Aldridge, and Dustin Ferrell each with 1. Andy Allred also blocked a shot.

After traveling to Smith County to play the Owls on Tuesday, Jan. 9, the 'Cats will travel to Cannon County to take on the Lions on Friday, Jan. 12. The 'Cats will then host the Cumberland County Jets on Saturday, Jan. 13. Next, LA will travel to Baxter to play the Upperman Bees on Tuesday, Jan. 16

 

 

 

Lady 'Cats Take First Loss Of Season

The Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats hosted the Jackson County Lady Blue Devils on Friday Jan. 5.

"I feel like the biggest difference in our performance in this game was our inability to box out and rebound", Lady Wildcats Coach Eddie Linder said. "Jackson County scored a lot of points off of offensive boards and you just can’t allow a team like Jackson County to do that.

"I feel like our defense was good enough to win, but we have to come up with more than 37 points."

Jackson County came out strong. The Lady Blue Devils outscored LA 14-9 in the first quarter. The Lady ‘Cats came back in the second quarter outscoring the Lady Blue Devils 11-9, but were still down 23-20 at the half.

LA and Jackson County split the scoring 9-9 in the third quarter. The Lady Blue Devils pulled away in the fourth quarter. They outscored the Lady 'Cats 13-8 and handed LA their first loss of the season by a score of 45-37. The loss put the Lady Wildcats at 13-1 on the season.

"It was a disappointing loss, but I think we can use it as a learning experience. Any time you have such a loss it just makes you want to work harder and get better," Coach Linder said.

Scoring for LA was led by Jenna Baltimore with 11 points, including a free throw and two 3-pointers, followed by Katrina Beechboard with 10 points, Stephanie Sullivan with 7 points, including a free throw, Kelly Thurman with 4 points, Megan Thompson with 3 points, including a 3-pointer, and Renee Melton with 2 points.

The lead for assists was shared by Stephanie Sullivan, Renee Melton, and Katrina Beechboard each with 2 . Jenna Baltimore, Jessica Leach, and Megan Thompson each had 1 assist.

Rebounding was led by Stephanie Sullivan with 6 rebounds, followed by Jenna Baltimore with 5 rebounds, Katrina Beechboard and Kelly Thurman each with 4 rebounds, Jessica Leach and Renee Melton each with 2 rebounds, and Megan Thompson with a rebound.

Jenna Baltimore had 2 steals. Also, Katrina Beechboard had 2 blocks, and Stephanie Sullivan had a block.

After traveling to Smith County on Tuesday Jan. 9 to take on the Owlettes, the Lady 'Cats will travel to Cannon County on Friday, Jan. 12 to play the Lady Lions. The Lady ‘Cats will then host the Cumberland County Lady Jets on Saturday, Jan. 13. Next, LA will travel to Baxter to play the Upperman Lady Bees on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
