Richard Matthews, 38, World War veteran of Rickman, was found dying beside a railroad track one mile west of Cookeville 9:30 o'clock Saturday night. Matthews died 20 minutes later on the way to Cookeville for treatment. An inquest by Coroner J.B. Dow gave a verdict that Matthews had been struck by a train. Sheriff Hubert Crawford of Putnam County conducted an investigation Sunday on the theory that Matthews met with foul play. Matthews, who is a nephew of Billy Matthews, former representative from Overton County, was brought back to Rickman for burial.
