LA Soccer Season Closes

For a few minutes more. The last minutes of the region tournament game played Tuesday, May 16 at Livingston Academy drew the Livingston Academy Wildcats soccer team to within one goal of White House, but a half is only played for 40 minutes.

"We scored first," LA Soccer Coach Rick Sells said. "Then they went up on us 3-1. We gave away two handballs in the box. Those handballs were penalty kicks. They scored on both of those. That's two goals that we gave them.

"In the second half, we didn't give them anything."

Down 4-1, the ‘Cats refused to give in, but they couldn't muster any more scoring, until the final minutes of the game.

"We scored two goals in two minutes," Coach Sells said. "If we had enough time, we would have beat them. He had taken his first string out, and he had to put them back in because we scored two goals real quick. Peter (Beasley) scored a goal, and then he banged one off this player, it goes right to Joe (McGill). Joe heads it in."

Then time ran out, closing the Livingston Academy season with the 3-4 region tournament loss.

Peter Beasley scored two goals in the game, and Joseph McGill accounted for the other LA score.

Matt O'Brien manned the goal for Livingston.

"O'Brien played a tough game," Coach Sells said. "He made some great saves.

"We had our chances. We could have beat that team. They had more players and he could sub more than I could, but we stayed right with them the whole game. We didn't quit."

The 2000 Livingston Academy boys soccer team finished the season with a 15-3-1 record.

"This is probably the best team we've ever seen here,” Coach Sells said. "They played really well some games, some games they didn't play so well. We never quit, they never stopped. Every player on that team, they came to play. You know that's all you can ask for, really.

"They always played tough when they had to. I think it was a great year, a great team."

The team will lose five seniors to graduation - Peter Beasley, Marc Smith, Jeremy Crabtree, Jeremy Bilbrey, and Josh Young. "We're going to miss them,” Coach Sells said.

"We're going to miss Peter Beasley. I wish I had Peter one more year."

Beasley was named All-Region.

"We're going to miss those seniors, but we've got some good players coming in," Coach Sells said. "I've got the goalie coming back. Colin's (Smith) tough. I'm going to have to move Colin to midfield. "We've got Silas (Stoddart) coming back.

"I've got Donovan Reid, he's a good freshman.

"Cody Boles, he's showed he can play.

"Eric Huddleston, when he wasn't hurt he was a hustler.

"Everybody on defense, (Jacob) Cobble, (Josh) Krack, Boles.

"The only thing we're not going to have is somebody to just take it on their own like Peter could.

"I'm not really worried about it. We'll be competitive next year, I think."
