Man Dies In Collision

A Hilham man died in a two-vehicle collision on Highway
85 near the Livingston city limit Tuesday, Aug. 29. According to
reports, Billy M. Christian, 53, of Cookeville, was driving an American
Freightways Inc. 1996 International tractor-trailer east toward
Livingston around 1:41 p.m. when a blue four-door Chevrolet Corsica
driven west toward Hilham by Danny K. Rector, 47, of Hilham, crossed
into the eastbound lane. The vehicles collided near the entrance
of the old Service Transport terminal. After the impact, the car
slid across the westbound lane, coming to rest in a ditch. The truck
jack-knifed and burst into flames.
Danny K. Rector was dead at the scene.
Billy Christian was transported to Livingston Regional
Hospital for treatment.

Dies In Wreck
A Monroe woman died in a one-vehicle wreck on Barnes
Ridge Road near Pickett County around 11:10 p.m. Saturday, Sept.
2.
According to reports, Jill T. Sells, 40, was driving
a 1994 Ford F250 pickup with Gary Sells, 43, and Marcia A. Harvey,
35, all of Monroe, as passengers. The truck left the road off the
left shoulder and hit a tree. R
ight side passenger Harvey was reportedly standing
up and out of the right passenger side door when the impact happened.
She was ejected from the vehicle when it hit the tree, and died
as a result of injuries sustained.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, seat belts
were not in use, and drinking was involved. No drugs were apparent,
but drug tests were ordered. Citations were issued, and criminal
charges are possible involving negligent homicide against the driver.

Injured In ATV Collision
Two Allons children were seriously injured in a collision at 1:10
p.m. Monday, Sept. 4.
According to reports, Allen Murphy, 37, of Rickman, was driving
a 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier east on Old Celina Highway near Palestine
Road when a Yamaha all-terrain-vehicle driven by Andrew Handy, 10,
with Dakota Handy, 3, as a passenger turned into the carŐs path.
The automobile struck the four-wheeler, causing it to turn over
and eject both passengers. The ATV ended up in a ditch beside the
road.
Andrew Handy sustained extensive damage to one of his legs. Dakota
Handy sustained injury to the pelvic area and had a fractured nose.
Both were transported by helicopter to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.
Neither was wearing a helmet.
The automobile driver was apparently uninjured.
