Clay County Man's Report Alleged False

A Clay County man has been arrested for filing a false report in a case that led to the injury of an Overton County deputy.

According to a report in the Citizen-Statesman, Billy Junior Ward, 35, of Charlie Melton Road, Allons, was charged with making a false report after an investigation by the Clay County Sheriff’s Department determined the report of a neighbor shooting at houses was false. A neighbor admitted to shooting target practice, but denied shooting at any houses. Other neighbors reportedly told Clay County deputies the report was false.

Overton County Deputy Ryan Allred was flown to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga after his patrol car slid off the road and wrapped around a tree around 4 p.m. Saturday, May 20. Dep. Allred was on his way to assist the Clay County Sheriff’s Department on the call that is now called a false report. Dep. Allred was released from the hospital on Tuesday, May 23 and is recovering from the effects of a concussion.
