Outlaws Down Carthage
In Opener
By Howard Chandler
The Overton County Outlaws improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference
play with a 33-0 win over Carthage. The Junior Outlaws also stayed
unbeaten with a 32-7 win in the home opener for the Outlaws youth
football program.
The senior team used a sound running attack, directed by quarterback
Andrew Dixon, to completely dominate the Carthage team.
"Andrew did a good job running the option and once Jamey gets
the ball on corner he's hard to catch," said Head Coach Curtis
Hayes. "Our offensive line had an outstanding game."
Jamey Vaughn, who ran for 151 yards and 3 touchdowns, on only
7 carries, got the Outlaws on the board first with a 1 yard touchdown
run with :08 left in the opening quarter. Dixon threw to Beau Massengille
to make it 8-0.
Vaughn's second touchdown came on a 63 yard run with 4:07 to go,
and his third came on a 38 yard score with 3:38 left until halftime.
Kurt Gilbert added a 28 yard touchdown in the third and Josh Von
Hoene completed the scoring with a 9 yard run in the fourth. Complete
statistics follow this article.

conversion while quarterback James Williams also threw a 55 yard

LA Girls Soccer Team
Plays Lady Cavaliers
Christen Cates, #14, moves the ball for Livingston Academy in
Thursday's 0-2 loss to Cookeville. Though a loss, the game could
have been worse, according to LA Soccer Coach Rick Sells. "I
bet they had 30 shots on goal," he said. "We had maybe
8 shots on goal. "We played well against them. They just have
more offense than we do."
Morgan Gantt, #6, contends for control of the ball in last week's
loss to the Cookeville Lady Cavaliers. The Lady ÔCats Soccer Team
will travel to Sparta on Thursday, Sept. 9 for a 5 p.m. game, then

The Livingston Academy Wildcats Golf Team followed a rough outing

played DeKalb County and Cannon County. Livingston shot a 193, losing
to DeKalb's 160 and Cannon's 181.

with a 47, Charles Hammer with a 49, and Colin Smith and Matt O'Brien
either with a 52.
LA played York Institute at Hidden Valley Golf Course on Thursday,

"It was the most consistent and all-around best team effort
we've had this year. The guys played well," Coach Linder said.
"We're hoping that'll carry over into the next two or three
matches.
"We've had some bad days and it's nice to be able to bounce
back and have the best day we've had all year. Maybe that's a good
sign we're starting to turn the corner a little bit."

a 41, and Colin Smith and Charles Hammer both with a 42.
York Institute's Barry Conatser was the medalist with the low score
