Down in Alabama they are resorting to a concoction of paragoric and hair elixir as a beverage; Tennessee moonshine beats that two to one. Laura Phillips, daughter of Lisa Phillips, is very low with pneumonia fever. Dr. Brown is waiting on her. We had some frost this morning, Nov. 3. James Hooten S.T. Qualls has moved from Dry Hollow to his property here. Lester Holeman has bought the half interest of L.P. Jernigan in the Birdwell and Jernigan grocery. Since returning from the war and for several months before he went to war, Mr. Holeman has been a popular clerk in the Fleming and Myers establishment. No doubt his many friends are pleased to see him launch out into business for himself. He has also rented the J.C. Bilbrey property on Main Street where he will reside. An effect is being made to strike the word "obey" from the marriage ritual. Why not? It has become obsolete so far as practice is concerned. Plenty of rain in Hilham. Pete Brown has bought the John Harner farm owned by Geo. Lea and will move to it shortly. Prof. L.E. Garrett's visiting his parents in Virginia. Mrs. C.E. Snodgrass and daughter were here from Crossville last week visiting another daughter, Miss Lola Belle, a student in the Academy. Emmet Wilburn has moved from Lily Dale to J.A.M. White's farm one mile north of town. A.G. Keisling has bought the half interest of W.P. Bowmer in the Farmers Milling Co., and his son Sherlie has taken charge in connection with Marshel Reeser, whose father owns the other half interest. J.A.M. White has employed W.C. Cooper of Rickman to crush 400 cu. yards of lime, which he will spread over his Tower Hill farm. The crusher is now running. Mr. Cooper has other contracts as soon as this is completed. Notice Parties who have carried away coat hangers from my pressing shop please return them at once. Shafter Thrasher Benton Young and bride left Friday for Akron, Ohio, where they expect to locate. Little Francis Burks, daughter of Major Willes Burks, is reported to have diptheria. Miss Bessie McCormack, who is teaching at Crawford, spent Sunday with homefolks. There seems to have been a hitch in the sale of the Mack Bilbrey property to Mr. Peek. Mr. Peek failed to get it. C.P. Gray is reported to have bought it.
