A recent Overton County News poll asked “Do you think the Director of Schools should be an appointed or elected position?” Of 260 responses, 241, 93%, preferred the position to be elected, and 19, 7%, preferred to keep it appointed.
State Senator Charlotte Burks and State Representative John Mark Windle each sponsored bills to provide a means for giving the vote back to the people in the just finished session of the General Assembly. Burks’ bill stalled in committee, and Windle’s bill was deferred to the summer session. |

Summer classes start soon at Volunteer State Community College at Livingston, and registration is open now, according to a press release from the college.
Students will have 30 classes to choose from, including general education courses, such as Anatomy and Physiology and English Composition, and specialty classes, such as Microeconomics and Introduction to Animal Science.

More than 100 competitors from 16 eligible counties participated in the 59th annual Cumberland Plateau Regional Science & Engineering Fair hosted by Tennessee Tech University’s Millard Oakley STEM Center in March.
