School Board narrows director search to 4

Overton County Board of Education narrowed the Director of Schools search to four candidates after holding interviews Friday, May 24.

The final four candidates are Dr. Michael Booker, of Madison, Dr. James Francis, of Sring Hill, D. Scott Porter, of Bluford, IL, and Dr. Patricia Dale, of Livingston.

A community "meet and greet" for those final candidates will be held at Livingston Academy from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p..m. Friday, June 7, with final interviews to follow immediately thereafter at the school.

More information on the Friday, May 24 interviews will be published in the May 28 edition of Overton County News.

A crash on West Main Street Wednesday, May 15 led to a traffic backup that may have played a role in a second multiple-vehicle collision on the Highway 111 Bypass minutes later.

Hydrants to be flushed this week

Livingston Fire Department, along with the Town of Livingston Water Department, began flushing hydrants on Monday, May 20 and will continue through Friday, May 24.

Overton County unemployment rate remains at 9.5% in March

County unemployment rates for March show the rate decreased in 58 counties, increased in 24, and stayed the same in 13.

Overton County’s unemployment rate was 9.5% for March, the same as in February. Overton had 980 unemployed of a workforce of 10,350.

OCN to close early for holiday

In observance of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 27, the Overton County News office will close at 11 a.m.

All news articles and advertisements to be published in the May 28 edition of the newspaper must be submitted prior to this time.

The office will reopen Tuesday morning at 7 a.m.

Convenience centers to close, garbage routes to change for holiday

Convenience centers

Overton County transfer station, recycling center, and all convenience centers will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.

The centers will reopen Tuesday, May 28 with regular hours.

City garbage routes

Garbage routes in the Town of Livingston will temporarily change in order for the city to observe Memorial Day.

Trash will not be picked up on Monday, May 27. Monday’s trash route will be picked up on Tuesday May 28 along with Tuesday’s usual route.
